How to Choose a Leather Glove Manufacturer: The OEM/ODM Buyer’s Guide

If you are building or scaling a glove line for your brand, private-label business or distribution company, the manufacturer you choose shapes your product quality, unit cost, lead time and ultimately your margin. This guide walks through the key decisions when sourcing men’s, women’s, driving and winter leather gloves from a factory.

1. Define your glove type and target market

Start with the end use. Fashion and dress gloves call for soft, supple leathers and refined finishing. Driving gloves need grip and a snug fit. Winter gloves and mittens need warm linings and weather resistance. Knowing the market (Europe, North America, Asia) also determines compliance requirements later.

2. OEM vs ODM: which model fits you

OEM means the factory produces to your approved tech pack, materials and specifications — best when you already have a design. ODM means the factory develops the style, often from an existing catalogue. A manufacturer with 1,000+ ready styles lets you customize a proven design quickly and lower risk.

3. Material selection drives feel and price

The main glove leathers are lambskin and sheepskin/sheep nappa (soft, premium, for fashion and dress), cowhide and goatskin (durable, for driving and work) and deerskin (soft yet tough). Material choice is the single biggest driver of both hand-feel and cost, so specify it clearly in your tech pack.

4. MOQ and lead time: what is realistic

For a dedicated factory, a realistic MOQ is around 100 pairs per style and color. Sampling usually takes 7–15 days; bulk production about 30–45 days after sample approval. Always confirm these before committing a season.

5. Customization and sampling

Confirm the factory supports embossed or embroidered logos, Pantone color matching and retail-ready packaging. Insist on a pre-production sample for approval so the bulk run matches your expectation.

6. Compliance and testing

If you sell into the EU or US, plan for REACH and CPSIA. A capable manufacturer can arrange third-party testing (SGS, BV, Intertek) on leathers and finished gloves to meet your destination-market rules.

7. Logistics and incoterms

Most China glove factories quote FOB Shanghai or Ningbo, with EXW and CIF available. A factory one hour from Shanghai gives you faster access to the port and lower inland freight.

8. Why Qingye Gloves
